The CW Scraps Plans For "The Graysons"
Don't hold your breath waiting for The Graysons to premiere - unfortunately, trade paper reports confirm rumors that the series will not come to be - before a script was even finished.
Variety reveals that Warner Bros. Pictures' Jeff Rubinov was the one to pull the plug, claiming that Rubinov initially gave his blessing but changed his mind in recent days.
"The studio has opted not to go forward with the development of 'The Graysons' at this time as the concept doesn't fit the current strategy for the Batman franchise," the studio said in a statement. "Warner Bros. Television is currently working on several replacement options for the CW."
A failure to launch for The Graysons may very well improve the chances of a Smallville Season 9 - or it could hopefully mean something even better than The Graysons should come down the pipeline. Stay tuned.

The CW's Drama Development VP Talks Graysons
In a new article posted on Mediaweek.com, Thom Sherman, The CW Network's executive VP of drama development talked about The Graysons as an example of a known brand that can generate tons of advance publicity.
"“Put that out there, and there’s immediate recognition of the title," he said. "In this environment, the question remains, how do you make noise and break through the clutter?"
The network is aware that there will be a lot of online chatter regarding this project. "There'll be a groundswell of conversation among fans of the [Batman] franchise," he said, adding that those fans play a key role in determining “what people are writing about, what they’re talking about, what the Internet buzz is and what's the buzz in the comic book world, which is so huge." Sherman is also aware of the downsides. "You worry that people might immediately reject it because of their love of the original show or movie," he says. "So if it doesn’t measure up, that can be problematic."

Who Would You Cast?
Since there's not a lot of news about The Graysons just yet, we thought we'd pose a question for you all to discuss on the forum:
Who would you cast as Dick Grayson?
Don't worry about age as no one knows how old the producers' version of Grayson will be. (And let's hope cooler heads will prevail and no one will really call him "D.J"...)

Presenting... GothamSite!
Eight years ago, when Variety announced a "teenage Clark Kent project" was in the works, we set up a small page on AOL covering the development of it; the show would eventually become Smallville and the small page would evolve into KryptonSite. Fans of the DC Comics Universe visited Gotham Clock Tower a year later to watch the development of Birds of Prey - a series that held a lot of promise but fell a little short in the execution.
When TV projects were announced for Starman or Global Frequency, we covered it, even though the former wasn't even filmed. Then there was Aquaman (also known as Mercy Reef), which had a fantastic pilot that The CW sadly passed on. (Fortunately, it did introduce comics fans to Justin Hartley, who is doing a great job as Smallville's Green Arrow, so it wasn't a total loss). And now, with the announcement of The Graysons, we're adding another site to the KryptonSite Network of TV show websites.
Of all of the sites in the Network, the comic book sites have always been the most popular - maybe because I'm a big fan of the source material. So, visit this site often for updates on The Graysons - and as soon as more is known about the project, hopefully this will become your source for news and information.
So, send in some feedback, post in the forum... and regardless, enjoy the website. Let's hope this one hits the air, and let's hope it turns out well. |
The Graysons Forum Added At KryptonSite
After quite a bit of activity in the original Graysons thread at KryptonSite, we've decided to give it its own forum topic already. So, if you'd like to talk about the project, or discuss concerns or ideas, about it... visit the forum! |

A Message From Souders & Peterson Regarding "The Graysons"
Smallville's executive producers Brian Peterson and Kelly Souders have written in with a message to the fans at KryptonSite, clearing up some reports that had been made implying that Smallville may be on its way out...
Dear Smallville fans,
As news and rumors swirl around the development of The Graysons for the CW, we have every intention of letting you, our fans, be the first to know the reality. Never have we been so committed to the continuing success of Smallville as we are to seasons 8 and 9. While we are extremely excited to be working hand-in-hand with Wonderland, Warner Bros. and the CW to create the origin story of Dick Grayson, it has never been intended as a replacement for Smallville, as is speculated in some media. The cast, crew, writers and producers are all working full-steam ahead on a story-line for Clark that allows for seasons of further trials and adventures for our favorite hero. As always, we all have you to thank for achieving eight years of this amazing show that Al and Miles created, and we're looking far beyond!

Smallville's Souders & Peterson Fly With "The Graysons"
The CW may have found their Smallville replacement, or at least a companion series if the show should go for another year.
Variety has announced that Smallville executive producers Brian Peterson and Kelly Souders will soon be taking on another DC Comics legend - Robin - in a series called "The Graysons." Supernatural executive producer McG will also be involved.
Not many details are known about the project at this time. Obviously this series will take place before Robin meets Batman, and before his acrobatic family is murdered. The series will feature young Dick Grayson, who for some reason is using the nickname "D.J.," as "he will face challenges involving first loves, young rivals and his family as he grows up."
Stay tuned for more information when and if it becomes available.
